Lets weigh in on The HULK... (no pun intended)

Okay everyone... went to see the opening tonight. I have one word for it... INTENSE!

I knew it was going to be far-fetched.. and it was... but it turned out to have a lot more humanness... if that makes sense... than I expected. A few parts were so crazy you just had to laugh. If you have any anger before you walk it's gone when you leave... so if you having a bad day....

You may want to see it just from the perspective of the animation, since we are all involved with animation to a degree in this field. You truly forgot it was animation and real actors together.

It did not disappoint in the least and scored big points with me.

Next...

We were there last night and saw it. It didn't disappoint you in the least, really?

The opening drags on for what seems like an eternity. Too long before you get to the not-so-jolly green giant. Overall, the entire film probably could have stood 30 more minutes or so under the knife.

The Hulk doesn't look as fake as what the CGI teasers showed. Eric Bana plays a somewhat forgetable role as Banner and Nick Nolte overplays David Banner. I like the pets that Nolte keeps though, that was one of the better scenes with the Hulk, although don't ask me to explain why that scene happened LOL.

The movie sort of just, well, ended. I recall looking at my watch a few times, and that doesn't bode well for the pacing of a flick. Directory Ang Lee did some cool things with the photography, but I got the feeling he was trying to win some kind of artistic award rather than tell a fun story about a creature with an anger management problem.

Hulk is not Shakespeare.

Overall, IMO, Hulk is better than Daredevil, but not by much. It is no Spiderman or x2-killer. I'd recommend saving your money and waiting for the DVD unless you want to see how Hulk looks (which actually I don't think he looks as bad as people feared -- more like a Shrek-type character). I'm guessing this one will be packed with many, many goodies on DVD as I understand Lee cut out a bunch of stuff. Here's how I'd rank the Marvel movies:

Spiderman (best)
X2
X-Men
Hulk
Daredevil (worst)

So you really think that X2 was better than X-Men? We liked the "original" but haven't gone out to see X2 yet. Wasn't sure it was worth it. The only people we'd talked to who really loved it were not fans of the comic so we weren't sure if they were wowwed by effects or if it really was good.

Thanks for the review...we just might go see it. The kids and I have another 4th of July movie marathon planned since hubby is working. I told them to pick 4 movies and we'll just hang out in the air-conditioned theater all day. lol

I totally agree with TDavid's assessment. X2 is better than the first.

I haven't seen the hulk or DD yet, I was pretty sure they would both suck so I am waiting on the DVD's to watch on a day when I don't have anything else to do, including sticking pins in my eye.

kath - X2 is definitely worth seeing in the theater, especially if you liked the first X-Men then you will really enjoy X2.

X2 had more action then the first X-Men because they didn't have to go through so much history (like they spent doing with the Hulk), and more cool characters from the comics.

Good to know guys - thanks!

Tev...TDavid...you two ought to open up a Seattle Movie Review! lol It would certainly be a lot more straight-forward and informative than all the kiss-ass Hollywood reviewers out there. I usually go the OPPOSITE of their reviews - lol

Thanks!

WOW... I'm getting trumped here! Subjectivity lives I guess. lol

I do agree that Spiderman was better overall.

I went into Hulk with no expectations other than to have a good time. It's funny how the mind-frame you go into something with can alter the outcome.

I would rank The Hulk among the best comic book movies I've ever seen... up there with the first Superman, Spiderman, and X2.

The story was well-written, the action was amazing, the effects were extremely good... and The Hulk really was The Hulk from the comics - he was a giant, with super strength, who got stronger and stronger the more pissed he became.

I loved it.

As for Bruce Almighty, that shit was funny as hell... UNTIL the last 15 minutes, which I really could have done without.

Not a fan.

I don't think it's a guy thing... my wife said the exact same thing. I even let the religious propaganda slide (which usually kills a movie for me)... but that ending was just too much. It would have been different if they'd mixed some funniness in with the mush, but it was just pure mush.

For people reading this, though, who haven't seen the movie... don't let me discourage you. Everything other than that part made the movie well worth my time. It was some of Jim Carrey's funniest stuff, I think.

I think the "mush" is what made it a perfect couples' flick....he goes to laugh his ass off and she goes for that 15 minutes of mushy romance and everything-is-wonderful at the end...

*sigh*

It's a win-win situation....

Girls...laugh along with your guys (as if you could resist - Carrey is hilarious in this one...)

Guys...deal with those last 15 minutes (not complaining about mush in a movie that was 90% just pure funny/entertaining will get you brownie points from your girl)

Amazing when columnists start calling 62.5 million a "disappointing weekend opening" ... I have to wonder what type of sales they were expecting/projecting? For Hulk to top Spiderman? Note that investors were selling stock after Spiderman's record-breaking opening last year.

story here

I really think the teasers with the early cgi killed the momentum of this movie. If they had held onto their load and waited for some completed graphics before releasing a trailer, I honestly believe those numbers would be much different.

I know of a LOT of people who were disappointed by those trailers, and said, "Well, nevermind going to the theater and seeing it."

Unfortunately, I don't know many people who know the story behind the trailer, or the fact that the finished product looks much better.
