Arrow Trust in Adult Business

I've ranted a bit about trust in adult business on my blog:

I always wanted to write something about trust in adult business. I've been really active in adult business for over 1 year and i've seen and talked to a lot of people, readed a lot discussion, drama board threads and board threads posted by cheaters. In fact i think their are a lot 'not so honest' people in adult business. But lets face it, it is really easy to cheat and once you get caught you just get another domain, make a new identity and continue your cheating stuff.

Now when you know that, the question you ask is: who the hell can i trust and how do i know if i can trust someone? The short answer: you can't trust anybody for a 100%, people are people and people do strange things, it's the same as in real life but in adult business it is a bit worser.

Most adult webmaster boards have a search function which allows you to search for the posts that someone posted. You can even search for the threads a person made. You can do this on multiple boards. Now read the replies and messages the person made. I found this a great way to see what a kind of person someone is.

The next thing you can do is to find someones websites. You can do this by searching boards and hoping to find urls to their websites. I found whois.sc a good source, just type a domainname in the box and take a look which other sites are on the server (this requires a free registration for 5 sites, a silver membership for all sites). Now go and use google and/or board search engines to see if their is something negative about the by whois.sc listed sites.

If whois.sc is telling that their are over 100 sites on the server then you might want to check if it is a server with virtual accounts. Most experience adult webmasters aren't on a virtual account but have one or more servers. There are of course exceptions.

Will be continued.

http://www.adultblogwebmaster.com/tr...-business.html

I'll continue my rant tomorrow, it's a good rant topic. But please give your comments / re-rants on this subject.

Nice thread, but there are many factors you dont get into here.

This is common sence...you cant really thrust anybody 100% in your whole life....learn it or deal with it.

sometimes i post shit that is actually standing out from the crowd, because i have taken lessons from life and wont accept the things the way they are (this is an example)...should i then be punished for my right to free speech and the right to have my own opinion?

I think there are....many exceptions.

But all in all i liked your writing....all over there are more horse dicks in adult than any other places on the web......but the reason, i think dont lay in those that have hundreds of sites or have posted something bad on a board and still are present.... the reason are that in no other industry are there so many newbees (like myself) that want to try....give up....get angry at the industry....and want to pay back.

I think there is the main problem.

Anyone who thinks that there is a larger percentage of assholes in the adult industry than any other probably hasn't worked in other fields too long.

The point of his post was about 'not so honest' people in adult not how many newbies there are. My point was that there are just as many 'not so honest' people in every other kind of business there is. Do you seriously believe that scammers, cheats and liars are more prevalent in the adult industry than in any other?

the internet by nature promotes not just dishonest behavior but just plain lack of attention since there is no real eye to eye, handshakes and such. there is no accountability. To easy to just say "Fuck it" and move on. The fact that many do not have one red cent invested in the "Business" does not help. they flip flop around like changing socks. Just try to get anything done by phone with ANY customer service of any large business...... the annonymous nature of the internet and lack of accountability just promotes th I don't care, they don't know me mentality.

But I learned long ago 2 important things that once You accept life gets a wee easier to handle......... 1. life is not fair 2. screw me once shame on You, screw me twice shame on me..... just learn and move on....

I think Hammer's spot on. Perhaps the reason that cheaters seem worse in the adult online industry is the way we conduct business, and the nature of our industry. I've encountered dishonest assholes in other area's of work, but their dishonesty didn't have the direct effect on thier peers that it can have to an adult webmaster. When someone is dishonest and changes a gallery after submitting, or screws with a recip link, or spams your blog, these things directly affect your websites and your business. Also, despite how good of people some of us may be, it's really easy to shift perspective on someone and call them a dirty, rotten, lying smut dealer. It just doesn't have the same ring to call someone a dirty, rotten, lying dry cleaner, if I'm making my point correctly.

I think it's the fact that every fly by night liar and cheating SOB seems to end up on "The Internet". Bogus web sites and spamming email. And most end up putting some form of adult ads within their sites. So in the end it looks like adult webmasters are mainly a bunch of scammers to the rest of the world!

There are creeps in every country of the world. There are also creeps in every industry. I think because fo the webmaster boards and the nature of the Internet itself, we just hear more about it than say a real estate agent who might only hear about scamming agents from their local area

Most young internet noobies do not think about opening a retail store, or search engine, or all that. But most do think "hey, lets do a porn site so I can see all this porn and get fucked every night by hot babes! Also you can start with very little money. Sooooo, that attracts a lot of young, horny, hot headed newbies with no money who think it's easy. Soon a lot are trying every trick to try to make a dime. Then they disappear, leaving the honest, hard working ones looking bad. My 2 cents.

Not so true, theres many webmasters who are willing to lend a hand. I can't even count how many times I have fixed or installed blogs, LL, search engines, tgp's and god knows how many ttt scripts for others. Including many members of Cozy. I just wish they would remember to delete the usernames and ftp accounts like I tell them to.

To be honest, I was a little *shocked* at how open, friendly, and time-generous virtually everyone I've met so far has been.

Compared to a lot of other industries I've been involved in, so far at least, the adult community has been a pleasure to get to know.

Well put. One thing some have to watch for is spending your time helping others more than time spent taking care of yourself. I can say there are some right here at cozy that I would trust 100% and have I can think of a couple I have given free reign on my server space to help me with problems and not once did it enter my mind "hey I better not give them that password for fear that they might screw me" However I would not just hand that info out to just anyone but only to someone that has built a persona.Which brings me to the guys who" you just get another domain, make a new identity and continue your cheating stuff."I feel as if it is very important to have built that online name for yourself.
which is #13 on First Amendment.com's 21 Practical Tips for Beginning Adult Webmasters which all you newbie webmasters need to be reading.

My ranting seem to have the desired effect: discussion

Hammer is right when he saids that there are likely more 'good' webmasters then cheaters. I think it also depends on which world the question applies.

I've seen about a couple worlds in adult biz, the board world, the email/icq world, the private board world (does that still exists?) and the party/conference world.

As you might imagine there would be less cheaters in the higher worlds, cause people in these worlds have a lot to lose. Someone in the board world can just apply 'cheat and once you get caught you just get another domain' but it is a more difficult to do that in the higher worlds.

I need to blog about the different worlds, that's quite interesting!

Another thing you'll find -- which to many newbies may not seem like the truth, but for anyone that has ever tried to start any other type of business will be obvious -- is that there are a lot of people in this industry that are willing to help newcomers. On the flip side, have any of you ever tried to start your own real estate brokerage or start a restaurant or any other type of highly competitive business? Good luck finding anyone to help you and if you want to find a bunch of cut throat thieves, give it a try.

This thread makes me laugh.

Remember, 10,000 webmasters are competing for the same nickel.

If a competitor (you) gets in my way, I'm going to steamroll over you. Because I have a profit imperative.

Anyone who is making $$$ is going to protect their assets and keep hidden their trade secrets.

Businesses and startups have noncompete and nondisclosure agreements for a reason. Same shit applies to anyone serious abut profiting in Adult.

If you are too touchy feely to understand this and need anonymous ppls on a message board to feel successful, then you deserve to stay mediocre.

Have a nice day

Long. Self-serving. Stuffy wind-up.

What a self-righteous attention whoring douchebag. You are helping newcommers because you're marketing yourself and and pushing your iFriends webmaster refferal ID. And you know it.

Although there is nothing wrong with that. You just couldn't let your ownage fizzle I couldn't resist. Had to out you on your bullshit.

I'll lose my posting privilege for the 3rd time after this so here you go.
