Question Do we - adult webasters - have a trade union?

Yeah, we need AWM Union!

Sponsors should pay half the cost of broadband connection and hardware up-grades!!!

We need healthcare package as well as anti-fraud insurance policy.

Who's gonna run for the union cheif?

Newbie we missed you!

There isn't currently a union. You have your mini-unions here and there, for things like actors and such, but for the most part there isn't one.

I think YOU should run for head of AWU. I'd vote for you.

By the way ARS offers healthcare incentives if you sign up for them as a sponsor.

Hay The Newbie how are you doing? What have you been up to?

Just a question for you! What did you do before you got in to online porn?
Would you want to run for head of the AWU?

A union I wouldn't be interested in. But sending an adult industry lobbyist to Congress?

Considering the adult industry makes over $10 billion a year (and that is a conservative estimate) you'd think we'd have more of a pressure group on the government than Larry Flynt (not dissing the guy, he's a fuckin' hero)...

A properly organised lobby group would benefit this industry no end... especially if they were making big election and/ or political party contribution funds available...

Let's face it folks, pornography is more than just making a few bucks providing people with material to stroke or rub themselves off... it is a freedom of expression issue... it furthers the cause of progression to a place where we are totally comfortable with sex and sexuality...

One day things like homosexuality, being black-skinned, or using drugs will be a non-issue... it has pretty much become like that in the progressive world (i.e Europe, Canada, Australasia and New Zealand)... but the U.S.A, who claims to be free and democratic?...
It is lagging behind because of the puritans basically...
As my mate Charley Farley said, The Puritans were kicked out of the U.K by the Victorians for being too uptight (if a Victorian thinks you are too uptight... you got serious issues pal)... that is the U.S legacy and it still haunts it today...

Political arena is definitelty the way to go... a lobby group is a great idea...

Unions may work for some professions but I don't really see how they would apply to webmastering. Most of us are not employees (ok well some folks are that work for sponsors, content providers, etc), we are business owners, and unions primary purpose are keeping job pay, benefits and working conditions fair for their dues-paying members.

However, I do recognize the importance of supporting an organization that is fighting the right wing, ultra conservative beliefs and political agendas and two good organizations would be the Free Speech Coalition and the ACLU.

Healthcare is available, though arguably not affordable as it could be, but anti-fraud insurance?

I can pretty much guarantee you that the premiums for this type of coverage would not be affordable for the average webmaster especially given the current climate on the net. Insurance Companies would want to reinsure for a risky market like the adult web, and you are talking big, big money for reinsurance.

Great post TDavid! Pretty much the same things I was going to say.

As TDavid pointed out, there are organizations already in place that lobby for a lot of stuff in this industry.

The Free Speech Coalition

Does things for us on an daily basis. If you want to support our industry go check them out.

Also as he said, a union is for employees, not independant businesses.

Though if there were a union what would you lobby for?
