Sunfunbill is totally trying to help you out. It's really tough prying money out of the clingy hands of consumers online, so if you're going to make a go at it, you really have to dig in and learn tons more. The articles at Cozy Academy (affiliated with this site) cover so much basic info.
What Bill is trying to say is that it's very hard to make a paysite, and you're better off learning all the basics first before you get too ambitious! It's like popping into a forum and asking how to do bypass surgery. You need to learn how to do stitches, figure out human anatomy, and learn which end of the scalpel is sharp before you decide to cut someone's heart out!
Unless you have tons of money, and you're not really looking to make any in return, then you need some skills in web design, marketing, etc. You have a ton of work ahead of you. In my opinion, the best way forward is to use all the free resources you have available (educational articles, plug-ins, etc), avoid reinventing the wheel. $500.00 in profit on a $15 investment is something to be proud of. $2,000 in profits on a $10k investment just leaves you in debt. :P
You could also narrow down your role in all this. I'm certain you can sell exclusive content online to other, experiences webmasters through various channels. You'd have to research this on your own, as I handle atypical material (audio recordings) myself.
But a blog is an awesome start. It lets you get a feel for what you want to do, let's you start laying things out. The best thing I ever did was start my own blog. Getting good traffic is a major PITA, though.
I personally find that the best way to attract attention for your site is with your own time, personality and attention. When I'm online, I tend to chat with people on my site. I create directly in response to what specific people are interested in. It goes a long way towards establishing a community around what you're selling. Even when it's porn, people want to buy a connection.
Start with a blog and build from there!
